AmbassaDroids – KT38 – Oklahoma City, OK

My name is Patrick Yeary, I live in Oklahoma City, OK and I am a long time fan of R2-KT. I started building my first astromech droid in 2010 and I was inspired by KT’s story. When researching I was told at the time that R2-KT was a unique droid and that there should be only one pink droid. I respected that so I started building my R2-D2. I obtained many of the parts from Jerry Greene (who I know supplied many parts for the original R2-KT). My R2-D2 is all metal and was completed in 2012. He attended his first public event in 2013. He is popular at every event he attends and he always brings smiles to faces. My favorite events are children’s hospital visits and especially rolling into rooms of kids too sick to get out of bed.

I have met so many wonderful fans through R2-D2 and I finally got to meet R2-KT in person in 2015 at Celebration Anaheim. Below is a group photo of all of the droids in attendance and I circled my R2-D2 and R2-KT

I eventually joined the 501st Legion – Oklahoma Garrison (TK-27866) and I have several approved costumes. However, I am usually asked to bring droids to events because they are so popular.

When I first found out about the AmbassaDroid program I was tempted to repaint my R2-D2 pink but ultimately, I decided to build a new droid from the ground up as R2-KT. I started collecting metal parts for a KT build. As I am sure you know, it takes a long time to acquire the parts and it’s quite an investment. After years of collecting parts, I was still lacking many important pieces and was far from even starting to build.

Fast forward to this year and with the newest 3D printers and the latest advances in files I decided to 3D print an R2-KT. Instead of waiting years for more parts, I could complete my droid in a matter of months by making the parts myself.

After months of hard work, I am finally ready to join the Pink Side. Here are photos of her, including one with the first KT I built – at Disney World (had to give her the proper pink color after returning home)
