KT-36 Team: Cory Hall and Ruben Camerino
From Ruben Camerino: “After researching the database Cory and I were both very surprised to see that there wasn’t already a KT in California. It’s been an absolute pleasure and honor building KT, a true labor of love. I’ve always had an affinity for KT and thought it would be great to continue her legacy by building one. After building our first astromech (R2-D2) in 2023, we felt we had enough experience and resources to build another one. We also thought that it would be a great homage to our mothers who have both passed on that have been struck with different forms of cancer and illnesses.”
“Cory and I are members of the local San Diego chapters of the 501st Legion (Imperial Sands Garrison) and Rebel Legion (Scarif Base). I have several approved costumes in the 501st (TK-61904) and a Chewbacca with the Rebel Legion while Cory has a Tusken Raider (DZ-67351). I’ve had the honor of meeting Albin a few times at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in 2015 and Celebration Chicago in 2019. We hope to run into him again when celebration comes back this way to Los Angeles in 2027 so that he can meet KT-36 in person.”
“I’m also an event DJ for the San Diego Padres who just so happen to have a jersey that similarly resembles the KT colorway. Prior to officially having the R2-KT 36 title we were able to have the droid on stage with me to kick off Star Wars weekend at the Padres game while I Dj’d as well as some on-field time between innings. We did however add a little touch of color to coordinate with the home jersey for just the night which have since been removed.”
